RIFF

The Howard Theatre was established on 1910 in Washington, DC. At the time the theatre was considered the “largest colored theatre in the world.”The theatre came before legendary theatres for black artists such as the Apollo and the Regal. Unfortunately, the once considered “trunk of soul” was neglected since 1970 due desegregation, competition from larger venues, and the 1968 riots after the assassination of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. However is was restored in 2012 and now serves as a preserved concert venue.

During the design of the RIFF publication, I have skillfully incorporated a multitude of Jazz elements and characteristics including repetition, rhythm, improvisation, and playfulness.
